Algarve Paté Starter
A Portuguese-style pâté with Clover Leaf's Mediterranean-seasoned Brisling Sardines … ideal for a light snack or you can prepare it in advance for an entertaining event.

Algarve Paté Starter Ingredients
| 1 | thick slice, crusty bread, crusts removed |
| 1/4 cup (50 mL) | water |
| 1/4 cup (50 mL) | softened butter |
| 1 can (80g) | Clover Leaf Brisling Sardines, Mediterranean |
| 1 tbsp (15 mL) | finely chopped green onion, white part only |
| 1 tsp (5 mL) | each, hot pepper sauce and lemon juice |
| 1 tsp (5 mL) | extra virgin olive oil (optional) |
| Mixed olives | |
| Additional sliced bread |
Preparation
- Drizzle the bread with the water and let stand until the bread absorbs all the liquid. Transfer to a food processor. Add the butter, sardines - including the can liquid, onion, hot pepper sauce and lemon juice. Process until smooth, scraping down sides of bowl as necessary. Transfer to a crock and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving or for up to 2 days.
- Drizzle the top of the spread with extra virgin olive oil, if using. Serve immediately with additional sliced bread and olives, as a snack or as a first course.
