IntraFish - 2010 Person of the Year
Chris Lischewski, CEO of Connors Bros., L.P. and Clover Leaf Seafoods, was named IntraFish Media's 2010 Person of the Year on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at the IntraFish Seafood Leadership Luncheon in Brussels, Belgium. Connors Bros. Ltd. is the parent company of Clover Leaf Seafoods, Canada's leading brand of canned seafood.
Chris was recognized, among other things, for his work in creating the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF), a global partnership among scientists, tuna processors and environmental non-profit groups including the World Wildlife Fund, to undertake science-based initiatives for the long-term conservation and sustainable use of tuna stocks.
As CEO of Connors Bros., Chris is in charge of the largest shelf-stable seafood products company in North America, that supplies a full line of canned and pouched tuna, salmon, crab, shrimp, oysters, clams, sardines and other specialty products marketed in Canada under the Clover Leaf and Brunswick brands, and in the United States under the Bumble Bee, Brunswick, Snows and Beach Cliff brands.
"I want to congratulate Chris and his entire team. His work is representative of the global trend toward sustainable seafood production, a trend that is changing the way seafood is bought and sold," said IntraFish Media Publisher Pål Korneliussen. "It makes sense he is the IntraFish Person of the Year because the award honors those leaders who are influencing significant change within the seafood industry."
Chris was unable to attend the presentation but he gave thanks via video. Watch the video of his acceptance speech (below) and why he feels so strongly about sustainability.
Kudos Chris - you make us proud!
